cross purposes

On November 21, 2009 / By maggi dawn / Reply

I recently moved my entire blog over here from Typepad. A clever person I know did all the techie stuff, and a rather fine job he did too. Made it look effortless.

But I have just spotted a glitch. We imported the entire old blog, posts, comments and all. And somewhere about two or three months back, the comments have got separated from their posts. It makes for comical, baffling or just plain annoying reading.

Does anyone read the comments six months later? Should I worry? should I care?

Are you worried? Do you care? If so, is there anything you can do to change it?

I like the new site, by the way!

Slightly off-topic, but one frustration with the new site is the way posts are truncated (with a ‘More…’ link) so it’s no longer possible to read the last week or so’s posts on a single page. (Quite often the posts are truncated only a few words before the end)

I often use an RSS reader on my phone to keep up with the blog. The same problem affects the RSS feed. With the old blog I was able to refresh the feed, then read through the items at leisure in the newsreader program – the complete posts having been downloaded. With the new blog only the truncated posts get downloaded. I then have to click the ‘More…’ link to read the rest, which launches a mini web browser. This is slow and cumbersome, especially since the web site isn’t optimised for mobile devices (not that I’d expect it to be).

Not wanting to moan, but is there any possibility of an (alternative?) RSS feed that provides the full posts rather than the truncated ones?

Really enjoying the blog though – thanks :)

  3. thanks Paul, I’ll look into it.

Dayzeee, thanks for the encouraging remarks!
