Emergence in Science and Religion

On January 31, 2006 / By maggi dawn / Reply

There’s a lecture on 14th Feb on the above topic. I shall go along, Godwilling and schedule permitting. (God is usually much more obliging than the schedule, it must be said).

The last couple of weeks I’ve eaten dinner with a variety of scientists, geographers and physicists, picking their brains on Emergence, Complexity, Chaos, Turbulence, and other related subjects. I haven’t looked at it for a while, and happy to say that I got enough "value for money" out of the conversations to get way out of my depth in a couple of places. These areas do serve as really interesting metaphors for religious thought (and yes, I know that’s a controversy in itself, but I’m sticking with metaphor.)

Any Cambridge dwellers want to meet up for the lecture?

  1. Maggi,
Have you read Margaret Wheatley’s stuff (Leadership and the New Sciences), etc? Also, what other books on this area have you discovered to be worth that read? Andrew

  2. Sounds really interesting – where is it?

What, an attractive lady such as yourself going to a lecture on Valentine’s Day?
There’s no justice in the world.

  5. Excellent. Do I need to book a seat or anything? (I’ve put my email address in the preamble if you’d rather email the details to me.)
