Google Buzz and privacy

On February 19, 2010 / By maggi dawn / Reply

recent innovation Google Buzz connects your email account to a Twitter-like reader.

Most of the comments I’ve read about it simply suggest that it’s annoying and increases the “background noise” to your day. But you may not realise that it also selects for you who reads your posts, depending on who is in your email address box. Don’t use Google Buzz unless you don’t mind the possibility that anyone in your email list might read what you put up there.

It’s only a step away from the same-old privacy issues on twitter, facebook, etc – but linking it to an email address book gives it even more insidious implications. What you imagine is as semi-private as MSM is actually rather full of holes. Not smart, Google.

It’s amazing how little people seem aware that they compromise their own privacy and security with Facebook, Twitter etc – as demonstrated by this experiment. Posting up for all the world to see when you are on holiday or away for the weekend is not the smartest idea.

You can disable Buzz completely. Seems like a good idea.
