sleeping on the job
To add to my meditations on SLOW, here’s a clip from Simply Simon:
The latest research by the Sleep/Wake Research Centre at Massey University
in Wellington has found that a workplace nap is one of the most
effective strategies to greater productivity. Up to forty minutes of
sleep, they say, can make a world of difference to the well-being of
workers, to the health of workplace relationships and, ultimately, to
the financial bottom line. Even a ten-minute doze sharpens the fatigued
mind far more effectively that copious cups of coffee.

The thing is to make sure the nap is only 10 minutes, otherwise you tend to feel more sluggish, lethargic and like extending it for ages. But it is amazing how much energy a ‘powernap’ can give.
