I wish I lived closer to Brighton this month. But I’m following the amazing beach hut calendar in the Independent, and on my fridge.

Advent Beach Huts 2009

Martin Poole of BEYOND came up with the brilliant idea last year of making the beach huts of Brighton and Hove into a life-size Advent Calendar. This week they began their second – and even more spectacular – Advent Beach Hut Calendar. Go here for information, if you are in or near Brighton and Hove between 1-24 december. Paperless Christmas

I never get my Christmas Cards out on time, so I was filled with hope when I was sent news of “Paperless Christmas”. I’m not sure it gives me a cast iron excuse for sending cards, but it is well worth a visit.

Click on the link for a contemporary retelling of the Christmas Story. All the elements are re-cast from the Annunciation to the Magi: Joseph has a Black and Decker Workmate, there’s a road trip to Bethlehem, a traffic jam, a motel with a faulty vacancies sign, and an angel in a delivery van. You follow the story through a series of roadside billboards, and you can also veer off on the “alternative route” that takes you to an online advent calendar (it goes live on 1st December). The shepherds’ episode is truly fab.

Top stuff. The publisher of my Advent and Lent books was involved in this project. Well done BRF.
